Worm Lesson

Worm Lesson

When I go on my walks in the morning, there are often earth worms on the sidewalk. I help the ones that are still alive find their way back to the grass. I realized that there is a lesson in this situation.

The worms come out on the sidewalk because it’s wet and it feels good to them. They do not think about the future, just what they can feel around them. Things go well for the worm until the sun comes out and dries out the sidewalk. Those worms that don’t make it back to the grass eventually turn into worm jerky. If they can’t find it themselves, then they depend upon luck to have something outside of their control, like me, come along to help them.

Many people go through life going where it feels good to them. They don’t think about the future or where they should be going. Things go well until the economy retracts, the job market shrinks or the stock market takes a dive. They feel blind, lost and helpless. Eventually, if they don’t get help, they turn to excessive debt, loss of happiness and often, bankruptcy. They depend upon luck to have outside of their control, like the lottery, bingo or the football pool, to come along to help them.
