What Do You Have?

What Do You Have?

Recently, I have been reminded of the phrase, you don’t know what you have until it’s gone. I’m on an extended business trip and the point has been driven home. I just wish I was driving home.

I’ve worked for myself out of my home for several years and I have gotten used to it. It was to the point where you don’t think about the things you have – the ability to make a quick trip to the store, the ability to got to the kitchen for a late night snack and most of all being with my sons and wife.

I took this trip as a favor to a friend who needed my expertise to get a job done. This job will help a company keep manufacturing vehicles that will save lives against IEDs overseas. Being a veteran myself, that’s important to me. It’s also in a part of the country that I have never experienced before and that was appealing as well.

What I did not anticipate was how badly I am missing what I left behind. It will make me appreciate my loved ones all the more when I get back.

This raises the question to you – I had a choice to go on this trip, do you have a choice in your life? Or are your affairs such that you sing, “I owe, I owe so off to work I go?” Are you building your dreams or are you building someone else’s dream?

There is more than one way to regain control. Are you taking action now? Are you digging your well before you get thirsty? Don’t wait until what you have is gone!
