How To Beat The Summertime Blues

Are you suffering from the summertime blues? What I’m talking about is the frustration with what you are doing now. You work hard, put in your time and you don’t have the money to go on the vacation you really want to have. Or, you don’t have work to do and can only spend time on a job search.

The economic news is not good and isn’t promising to get better anytime soon. Some estimate the current unemployment rate will be with us for the next couple of years. It sounds pretty dismal, doesn’t it?

There is good news. The statistics that the experts quote apply to population as a whole and they become meaningless when applied to an individual. The economy as a whole can be in a recession but that doesn’t mean your personal economy has to be in a recession.

Here’s some of the advantages being your own boss.

  • You can’t be laid off.
  • You determine when you get a raise.
  • You can turn travel into a business expense.
  • Your economy can boom no matter what others are doing.
  • You pick the hours you want to work.
  • You pick the location.

It’s not all fun and games. You do have to provide value and you do have to be self-disciplined enough to do the work.

What I recommend is to find something that is flexible and can be done on a part time basis so you can build the business while you are still bringing in a paycheck. The extra income can help you catch up on bills, pay off debt, etc. while you learn to earn.

By next summer, you can be doing what you want instead of wishing you were somewhere else.

Are You Celebrated or Tolerated At Your Work?

Most people go to a job where as an employee, they are tolerated. The only attention they really receive is if they screw up. Even if they are given a ‘good job’ comment every once in a while, it seems that one ‘oh, crap’, wipes out three thousand ‘good job’ comments. This is further evidenced by the ease in which businesses shed workers in order to improve profits.

When I worked in the corporate world, I often was the key tech guy that came up with the solutions that brought in extra clients and money. What was my reward? I was let go in the first wave of layoffs.

I contrast that with my network marketing business. I am celebrated by the people I work with, both above and below me in the organization. People like to listen to what I say. I am valued and I value others.

In my company, when you reach a certain level, not too high, they fly you and your spouse out to a retreat near the company headquarters. They literally give you the red carpet treatment. As you walk into the building from the limo, the headquarters employees from the CEO on down applaud and cheer you. You then get to talk to the CEO, President and other senior management who tell you that they work for you. That’s a BIG difference.

Tomorrow, when you get into your car to go to work and you put the key into the ignition, ask yourself, “Am I celebrated at work or just tolerated? And is it where I really want to be going now?”

Austerity Chic

Every once and awhile, I come across a ludicrous idea that people want you to participate in. Usually, these ideas come under the guise of being politically correct which serves the same function as pie in Paul Blart: Mall Cop, which is to fill in the cracks in the heart. “Go away, pain. Go away.” Instead of taking action to improve things, they want to put a better face on their miseries.

This morning, I read a newspaper columnist ranting on how wealthy people should join the austerity chic movement so as not to make the people who didn’t have money feel worse by comparison. In other words, stop enjoying the fruits of your labors because the fruits of my labors aren’t that good. They are trying to put the responsibility of their current situation on something besides themselves. That’s like hitting yourself in the head with a baseball bat and then blaming the bat.

First, you are where you because of the choices you have made. The way to change where you are is to change your choices. Take responsibility for your situation.

One of the ideas that really hit home for me was the idea that everyone is self-employed. You have a personal services business that you are selling to other people. Your employer is paying your company for the value your services provides. In order to receive more money, your company must provide more value. If you demand more money without more value, they will turn to another company who will provide that value for a lower cost.

Also, remember, value is not the same as difficulty. A person performing manual labor has a physically difficult job but they tend to be valued less than a bookkeeper who tends to have a much better work environment.

Another reason this is bad is that in difficult times you need examples to show you that life can be better. It gives you something to shoot for. “Where there is no vision, people perish.”

Instead of trying to make yourself feel better by tearing other people down, you should figure out how to make your situation better.

Instant Team

Many money gurus recommend that you put together a team to help you create wealth. With a network marketing business, you get an instant team. It’s literally a business in a box, all you add are customers.

The company handles product development, manufacturing, order taking, distribution, marketing material development, commission tracking and more. Many companies provide a back office so that you can see instantly how your business is doing and how much your estimated commission check will be. Some even add tax tracking abilities to create your Schedule C if you use that.

The marketing training gets you up and going with the basic skills in a very short period of time.

You avoid the costly start up costs that traditional businesses require. You avoid development, inventory and overhead such as employees and buildings.

You should check out a network marketing business today. You can go to www.FreeRKCDForYou.com to receive a free CD from best selling author, Robert Kiyosaki, called “The Perfect Business.” Get yours today!

Timely Quotes

I came across this list of quotes. They are often attributed to Abraham Lincoln but were actually written by the Reverend William John Henry Boetcker (1873-1962).

* You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
* You cannot help small men by tearing down big men.
* You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
* You cannot lift the wage-earner by pulling down the wage-payer.

* You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
* You cannot establish sound security on borrowed money.
