The Winter of Our Discontent

There’s a lot of discontent going on currently. I hear a lot of it about the weather, the economy and the political scene. Here in Texas, we’ve seen more snow this season than we have in the last 18 years – I’m judging by thinking back over my son’s lifetime.

Well, I can’t do anything about the weather and my influence on the political scene is very limited. I can, however, affect my personal economy. My oldest son is looking at several colleges to attend next fall. As anyone in this position can tell you, that’s a big affect on the budget. The question is, how to pay for it while maintaining our current lifestyle.

Most people look at what they can cut out of their budget to save. My thought is that there is only so much you can “cut out” of a budget without severely affecting your quality of life. My philosophy is that instead of cutting things out, what can I increase? I can develop new revenue streams. I can increase the flow from current streams. When you control  your income with a home based business, you determine when you get a raise.

The added advantage of increasing your income is that when the requirements stop, you still have the income. When my son graduates in four years, I will stop paying tuition, fees, books, room and board. That money can then be diverted into creating more assets!

It’s up to you to change your winter of discontent into glorious summer!

Quality Time With Sons

It’s school time again and I am resuming my job as Mr. Taxi.  I have a son that is starting middle school and a senior in high school. My senior also has an internship every school day at a vet clinic. I’m driving all over the place every school day. The up side of this is that I have a captive audience at least twice a day each. During this time, we have gotten into the routine of sharing our lives.

I get to find out what’s going on in their lives. I know if something is bothering them and can help them out. They can’t brush me off and run away to their room.

What makes this possible? I get to do this because I have lifestyle freedom. To me this time with my sons is irreplaceable. They will grow up only once.

Leverage – The Secret of the Wealthy

Leverage is a concept where through a mechanism, the result is much larger than the input. Mechanical leverage is where you can move large objects with less effort. Financial leverage is where you can control a larger amount of money with a small amount. Time leverage is where you receive more benefit than the time that you put in.

Time leverage is one of the advantages to network marketing. If you labored every minute of the day, at most, you could benefit from 24 hours of effort per day. As you build your network marketing team, you benefit from the labors of your team members. If you have 100 members and each of them put in just 1 hour of effort per day, you would benefit from 100 hours of effort per day on top of your own. J. Paul Getty once said, “I would rather have the results of 1% of 100 men’s efforts than 100% of my own effort.”

There is also synergy with leverage. In that 100 person team, if one person has an emergency and can’t put in the effort, only 1% is lost. If you can’t put in the effort, 100% of your effort is lost.

There will come a time when your group reaches a critical mass and the amount of benefit you receive makes your effort seem like a speck in comparison. It will continue to grow, even as your effort drops off.

This is just one advantage of network marketing.

Are You Being Bullied?

My family was watching our Back To The Future DVD’s this week. Biff was the school bully who was trying to dominate those around him. Even after school, in the initial timeline, Biff bullied George McFly at work. Most people have bullies in their life although they may not recognize them.

One bully, in the US, is the IRS. They tell you when to pay and how much. If you try not to pay, they can seize your things to satisfy your tax bill and throw you in jail to boot.

Another bully can be your job. You get told when to show up, what to do, when you can take a break, how much you will get paid, etc. Then, if there’s a problem, they can downsize you in a heartbeat.

You may get interested in a home business and some well meaning person may tell you that’s it’s no good. If you believe them, they are bullying you into their way of thinking.

How do you stand up to these bullies? You have to develop the strength, mentally and emotionally, to stand for what you believe in. George McFly summoned the mental and emotional strength to stand his ground. His pain was forced to an acuteness that gave him the strength to take action. After he realized that he had the power to stand up to Biff, his life and those of his loved ones changed dramatically for the better.

Part of you strength should come from you own home based business such as a good network marketing opportunity. By working this business, you can develop the mental and emotional toughness to stand up to bigger and bigger bullies.

When you develop lifestyle freedom, which includes money freedom, time freedom and the health to enjoy it all, you can control when to get up, how much you make, what you do, etc.

A home based business gives you more control over your taxes. You can structure your business in such a manner as to minimize your tax bill. You can shift many of your expenses to before tax dollars.

I invite you to take your stand today.
